Cleaning Spray Bottles: Chemistry First, Trigger Second

A cleaning spray bottle is a chemical container. The resin follows the formula, and the trigger's gasket fails before the bottle does.

Cleaning products are alkaline or solvent-based, which rules out PET and most low-cost gaskets. HDPE plus a specified trigger is the safe combination.

Resin Follows the Chemistry

HDPE handles most household chemistry; PET only suits mild, near-neutral formulas. Bleach and solvents attack the trigger seal before the bottle.

HDPE

The default for cleaners.

PET

Clarity for mild formulas only.

Trigger Specification

Ask for the gasket material and test with the real liquid. A trigger that passes with water can fail in a week with a solvent.

Venting

A tight bottle with a non-vented cap collapses as it empties. A vented cap costs nothing at mould stage.

Questions We Get on This

What bottle do cleaners use?

HDPE, 500–1,000 ml with a 28/410 trigger.

Can PET be used?

Only for mild near-neutral formulas.

Why does the trigger fail?

The gasket swells or wears with the formula; test with the real liquid.

Why does the bottle collapse?

No vent; use a vented cap.
