500 ml Bottles: the English-Speaking Market Default
500 ml is the retail default in the US, UK and Australia — a price point that reads as value without looking like a bulk pack.
500 ml is the size that hits the shelf price point most English-speaking markets expect for shampoo, body wash and hand soap.
It is also the size where the pump choice changes the pack from 'value' to 'professional'.
The free Bottle Spec Checker tests whether your neck fits the closure and whether the wall survives a pump stroke.

500 ml Is a Price Point, Not a Volume
The same formula sells at 400 ml in Southeast Asia and 500 ml in the US because of the shelf price, not the dosage.
24/410
Standard lotion pump; the common choice for shampoo and hand soap.
28/410
Heavier pump for 750 ml-class flow; used when the product is thick.
Wall Thickness and Pump Draw
At 500 ml a full stroke pushes hard on the shoulder. 0.55 mm is the floor for a 24/410 pump; 0.65 mm for 28/410.
What Changes for Export
Case weight matters at 500 ml: a full carton is heavy, and pallet weight limits can force a different pack count per container.
Where This Size Fails
A 500 ml pack fails at the interface, not at the mould: the closure thread, the wall at the shoulder, and the label edge in a wet environment.
Thread Mismatch
A 410 closure on a 415 neck threads on and leaks. Confirm the thread code.
Shoulder Flex
Under a full pump stroke a thin shoulder deforms and the pump draws air; 0.55 mm is the floor.
Label Lift
Paper plus humidity equals a lifted edge within weeks. Synthetic or silkscreen.
What to Send in a Brief
Capacity (500 ml), neck, closure, quantity, and whether the pack ships filled or empty. Those five answers set the wall, the liner and the carton before a sample is made.
500 ml in PET, HDPE and Clear: Which One You Are Actually Buying
The 500 ml size is moulded in more than one resin, and the resin decides what the pack can carry. Clear PET for a product that has to be seen; HDPE where the formula is opaque or attacks PET; PETG when the wall has to look thick like glass.
400 ml and 750 ml bracket it — the neck is usually shared, which is why one closure range covers the whole family. If you are switching between 500 ml and 750 ml, keep the neck the same and only the body changes.
Clear PET
The default for shampoo, water and anything sold on colour; light, recyclable, food-grade.
HDPE
Opaque, cheap, and resistant to surfactants — the choice for detergent and chemicals.
PETG
Thicker wall, closer to glass; costs 20–30 % more per unit.
