4 Oz Bottles: 120 ml, and the Size That Fits a Peg

4 oz (about 120 ml) is a retail peg size: sauces, lotions, craft oils and sample sets. The unit economics change because the closure costs more than the bottle.

4 oz is a US retail convention; in metric markets it is sold as 120 ml. It is large enough to be a product and small enough to hang or sit on a peg.

Why 4 Oz Survived Metrication

US retail shelf plans and moulds were built around ounces, so 4 oz bottles are still specified in the US even where the label shows 120 ml.

Sauce and Condiment

38 mm neck, small orifice cap.

Lotion and Craft

24/410 with a disc or flip top.

Cost per Unit

At 120 ml the cap, label and filling dominate. A 2-cent cap difference is a 10 % swing on the unit price.
