How Do I Verify a Chinese Packaging Supplier?

Three checks settle it: the Unified Social Credit Code on gsxt.gov.cn, the certificate number with the issuing body, and a video call with your product in hand. A supplier who cannot pass all three is a trading company with a website.

Check 1: the Business Licence

Every Chinese company has a Unified Social Credit Code (18 characters). Ask for it, then look it up on gsxt.gov.cn — the official register. It shows the legal name, registered capital, address and business scope.

If the code does not match the name on the invoice, you are dealing with an agent, not the factory.

Check 2: the Certificate Number

An ISO 9001 certificate has a number and an issuing body. Call or email the body and quote the number — a real certificate is verifiable in minutes. A certificate with no number is a picture.

The same applies to test reports: a laboratory report has a report number and a sample description.

Check 3: the Video Call

Ask for a live call walking the production line with your bottle in hand. A factory can do this in ten minutes; a trading company cannot do it at all.

Ask them to show the mould number stamped on the tool — that is the thing a reseller will not have.

What Each Check Rules Out

The credit code rules out a fake company. The certificate number rules out a copied certificate. The video call rules out a broker. Together they are stronger than any audit report you can buy.

Three Checks That Take an Hour

The ISO certificate number against the issuing body, the business licence against the company name on the invoice, and a video call with the QC bench.

Then one reference in your market, at your volume. A logo wall is not a reference.

Frequently Asked

How do I check a Chinese company?

Ask for the 18-character Unified Social Credit Code and look it up on gsxt.gov.cn.

How do I verify an ISO 9001 certificate?

Call the certification body named on the certificate and quote the number.

What if the supplier refuses a video call?

That is the answer — a factory can usually do it the same day.

Are audits worth it?

For a first order above about USD 30,000, yes; below that, the three checks above are usually enough.

Is a trading company a red flag?

Not by itself — ask who makes the tool and who signs the inspection report.

Should I visit?

Useful, not required. A video call through the mould shop answers most of it.
